Comrade
Jayanthe Wijesekera, JVP Parliamentarian and two other comrades
who were remanded on a complaint made by Parliamentarians
Piyasiri Wijenayake and Achala Jagoda on the 11th that they were
involved in removing two vehicles parked in Parliamentary
complex were set free on bail on the 21st.
When Comrade
Wijesekera was brought before court on the 17th he was refused
bail and was remanded till the 21st and when he was brought
before court today lawyers Messsr. Sunil Watagala, Neville
Abeyaratne, Jayanth Kodithuwakku and Sumith Silva appearing for
Comrade Wijesekera said vehicles of the JVP were the property of
the party and they were used commonly by the Parliamentarians of
the JVP. As such, Comrade Wijesekera and the two driver comrades
have not committed any crime by removing the vehicles as
asserted by the complainants pointed out the counsels. They
pointed out what the Parliamentarian and the two drivers had
done was to safeguard the property of their party.
The court
accepted the defense lawyers’ argument and released Comrade
Wijesekara and the two driver comrades on bail. The hearing will
take place on the 27th. (pic)
