Parliamentarian comrade Bimal Rathnayake emphasised the world
Peace Council that the main obstacle to peace in Sri Lanka is
the interventions made by the imperialists. Comrade Bimal
Rathnayake made these remarks at a meeting of the Asia - Pacific
Committee of the World Peace Council held in New Delhi in India
on the last 15th and 16th.
He also said, "Our country is not an economic giant. But its
location in the Indian Ocean bears a great significance. Certain
people say that imperialist countries are interested in only
looting recourses or oil in different countries. That is wrong.
For example take Gibraltar which is a very small country. It is
located between the Mediterranean Sea and the North Atlantic
Ocean. In this small country of 6.5 sq km there are seven US and
Spanish camps. That shows how imperialists establish positions in
strategically important places.
Now India and China are advancing fast in giant strides. They
are emerging as world powers. Therefore Indian Ocean bears much
strategic importance. If some world Super power tries to control
this, it is for this reason that imperialists are making
interventions in Sri Lanka making use of separatist terrorism
operating in Sri Lanka as a justification."
The theme of the meeting was "War, Imperialism and Terrorism".
Comrade Bimal Rathnayake distributed among members at the summit
the copies of treaties on oil and warfare signed recently between
Sri Lanka and America.
Representatives of several counters including India, North
Korea, Vietnam, Nepal, Laos and Bangladesh participated at this
summit. General Secretary of the World Peace Council and its
first chairman also participated at the summit |
