The revival of Tissa, the metropolis!

A colossal volunteer labour exercise is underway from the 1st to the 29th of February with the mediation of Tissamaharama Divisional Council. The volunteer labour movement has been launched as intensive as well as long term projects embracing 44 Grama Sevaka Divisions of Tissamarama Divisional Council. Several rapid programmes have been already completed and masses are reaping their benefits. These projects under the ‘Revival of Tissa’ programme are directly linked to the people in the area and are implemented with the participation of more than 1000 members of ‘Red Star’ volunteer brigade and support of the village community.

Repairing of 44 roads on a single day, implementing mosquito eliminating projects under ‘Udugambala’ (En route to springs) project, regulating sewage systems and making people aware of it, reconstruction of fish market at Dombarawewa Fair and construction at Tissa holy city and new stalls have been undertaken while ‘Purawara pubudu’ (City revival) organizations have been already established in all 44 Grama Sewa Divisions as an attempt to strengthen the bond between the council and masses. This would allow the citizens to see the development of the projects with their own eyes.

The benefits of this ‘volunteer labour exercise’, carried out by officials as well as masses with ideals displayed from the top official to the ordinary citizen, would be for the future generation and is an exercise aimed at going beyond a ‘city  of determination’ to a ‘city of   prosperity.’

The Convention of the ‘Purawara pubudu’ (City revival) organizations established in all Grama Seva divisions will be held at Public Grounds at Debarawewa on 25th of this month. (pic)
