Govt. will be sent home if fertilizer subsidy is slashed & farmers' issues are not solved! – Comrade Lal Kanthe


A campaign demanding that farmers' issue should be solved organized by the Socialist Farmer s' Union of the JVP was held in Dambulla town yesterday (24th).

A demonstration that started from Gam Udawa grounds at Dambulla marched to Dambulla town and held a protest campaign demanding the government to stop slashing fertilizer subsidy, bring down cost of living and solve farmers' issues. Later a rally was held near the economic centre at Damulla.

Comrade Lal Kanthe addressing the rally said, "The government that has become one of the most corrupted and inefficient administrations that ruled the country has ignored increasing the salaries of working people. The fertilizer subsidy given to the farmer community has been slashed and they have been made destitute. However the government maintains a colossal cabinet. The ministers of this government have become peons who have no work."

He said the progressive and patriotic people in the country would be rallied and steps would be taken to send the government home if steps are not taken to make available the fertilizer subsidy and solve issues of the farmer community.

Members of many farmer associations including United Farmers' Union of Nuwarakalaviya, United Farmer's Union of Athugalpura, Farmers'' Foundation of Thamankaduwa and United Farmers' Union of Gangathalawa participated in the campaign. JVP Parliamentarians Comrades Lal Kanthe, S.K. Subasinghe, Ranaweera Pathirana, Jayanthe Wijesekera, Namal Karunaratne and Sujatha Alahakone too participated in the campaign.
