A different government, not another government is needed - JVP
leader |
|
In
the face of the challenges the country is confronted with, the
JVP has undertaken the task of building a broad mass front to
find solutions to them. The JVP intends to enter into dialogue
with all sections of the society for the purpose of uniting
broad people's forces. As its first step a meeting between the
university lectures and the JVP leaders took place on
08.08.2007. JVP leader Comrade Somawanse Amarasinghe, General
Secretary Comrade Tilvin Silva and Parliamentarian Comrade
Wasantha Samarasinghe participated at this meeting.
Addressing this meeting of the intellectuals JVP leader comrade
Somawanse Amarasinghe said, "We have a huge crisis in our
country today. Foreign debt stands at 2500 billion rupees.
A serious imperialist conspiracy is being implemented. That is a
one that was sought after. These governments are creating
situations for the imperialists to interfere with.
We see we have five challenges before us. The first one is that
sovereignty and jeopardy, we must protect them. The second is
that we must achieve a rapid growth rate. The third is for this
growth rate to become a reality; we must strengthen both the
state and the private sector. The next challenge is that we must
see that the fruits of this development are fairly distributed
within the society finally we have to find answers to social
problems.
Open economy has no answers to these challenges. Open economy
and globalization have made the countries poorer. They have
added crises and infected them.
Every man that comes out of the world band and the International
Monetary Fund says that.
We now need a new alternative. We need alternative policy. What
we need is not another government, but a different government.
That alternative policy seen alive in the world today In
addition to the two main parties in this country, there is also
an alternative political party.
We must strengthen our national economy. China, Russia, Malaysia
and Venezuela have developed in this manner. The new mass front
formed under the leadership of the JVP will be dedicated for
this purpose. We have proved that we can do that. Therefore we
would like to invite all the forces in the country.
This is our government. a people's government, a different
government in place of another government. |

Going-alone JVP invites Mangala, sans UNP |
|
The
JVP is to invite ousted Minister Mangala Samaraweera to join
forces with them for a broad alliance against the government
leaving aside the UNP, when they meet on Wednesday.
In an interview with the
Daily Mirror yesterday, Party General Secretary Tilvin Silva
said they had planned to form a broad front even by including
disgruntled members from the government as well as the UNP.
Mr. Silva said they
would never opt for an alliance with the UNP, which he cited as
a party without solutions to the major problems confronting the
nation today.
“We want to form a broad
front. Even government members who are disappointed with the
present system can join us. It is a front open to all
progressive and patriotic forces. Mr. Samaraweera should also
join it, but not the UNP,” he said.
The JVP strongman said
UNP members who were disappointed with the possible alliance of
the party with the SLFP Mahajana Wing would be welcome in the
greater interest of the people. Meanwhile, the UNP is to
nominate its members this week to the joint committee assigned
to study the proposals put forward by the Mangala Samaraweera
group, and work out a common programme between the two parties.
The two parties will
also hold a public rally on July 26 after working out this
programme against the present government, to be followed by a
series of such events throughout the country. UNP General
Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the Daily Mirror yesterday they
were bracing for any eventuality under the current political
developments.
Mr. Attanayake said a
considerable number of ruling party Ministers had already
expressed their consent to cross over to the opposition to
engineer the downfall of the government. “Discussions are still
on with these possible crossovers. We cannot divulge more
details now,” he said.

Country needs an alternative Government!
New People’s Broad Front will fulfill this need! |
|
Electing a worse
government to replace the bad government that exists today will
not have any answers to solve the crises the country is
undergoing today said Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe, Leader of
the JVP adding that what the country needs today is an
alternative government not a substitute.
Comrade Somawansa
Amarasinghe said this at a media meeting held on 27th
of this month to brief the media regarding the decision taken by
the Political Bureau of the JVP to form a new People’s Broad
Front.
The country has been
pushed towards severe crises during the last three decades,
especially after introducing the open economy to the country.
Open economy has entrusted the country with poverty, crises and
doom only. Even the creators of open economy have accepted this
fact. Hence, the country should be guided along other
qualitative paths today. We could get examples from several
Latin American countries. What Sri Lanka needs today are such
qualitative steps.
The UNP and the SLFP
which have pushed the country towards crises are unable to do
this.
An attempt was made to
achieve at least a few victories for the people by supporting
the SLFP. However, the leaders of that party underrated those
attempts. Former President Ms. Chandrika Bandaranayke
Kumaratunga betrayed the policies of the UPFA and President
Mahinda Rajapakse is following a course that depreciates
‘Mahinda Chinthana.’ Hence, there is nothing left to experiment
with them.
Comrade Amarasinghe also
pointed out that the country had nothing to expect from the UNP
to solve the present crises. Both these parties have betrayed
the country. They have gone back on the pledges given to the
people said the Leader of the JVP.
Hence, what is left to
do is to create a People’s Broad Front with the leadership of
the JVP. This front should include all forces in the society.
The JVP has made arrangements from the beginning of next month
to have a dialogue with those forces. This new People’s Broad
Front with the leadership of the JVP will be formed to solve the
crises confronted by the country at present, to take the country
forward along a new alternative path and to defend the country
from foreign imperialist interventions.
Answering a question
from a journalist Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe said Mr. Mangala
Samaraweera deciding to have discussions with the UNP was a
concern. The UNP can do nothing to take the country forward from
the muddle it has been placed. Hence, Mr. Mangala Samaraweera
should not do that blunder. They should select the correct path
added Comrade Amarasinghe.
Comrades Tilvin Silva –
General Secretary, Wimal Weerawansa – Information Secretary, and
Members of Political Bureau Comrades Anura Dissanayake, K.D. Lal
Kanthe and Vijitha Herath were present at the media briefing.

British
government has no right to act, forgetting that the national
crisis was conceived during the exploitative
British
colonial rule in Sri Lanka - JVP
|
|
The Political Bureau of People’s Liberation
Front (JVP), in a media statement responding to decisions of
British government regarding the Sri Lankan crisis, says that
the period of British colonial rule was a black mark in history
in which the national crisis was conceived.
Having neglected each and every right and
privilege of the communities of Sri Lanka, the British colonial
rulers plundered the wealth in the course of which they
developed the strategy of divide and rule to carry on their
looting within the island. Being the successive authors of such
destruction in our country, the prevailing British government
cannot act in such an irresponsible manner, PB statement further
said.
"However,
neither Britain nor any country has a right to interfere in the
internal problems of Sri Lanka or violate the independence and
sovereignty of the nation. This would not be tolerated by the
citizens of Sri Lanka. Therefore, the JVP vehemently condemns
the position taken by the British government and pleads for the
peace-loving British people to protest against the actions of
their government against the Sri Lankan people"
PB statement further said.[PB

International Worker's Day |
|
Just as
all capitalist governments that have ruled this country,
Mahinda’s Government too is unable to solve the issues of the
workers said National Organizer of Socialist Workers’ Union and
JVP Parliamentarian Comrade Lal Kanthe.
National
Organizer of the Socialist Worker’s Union and JVP
Parliamentarian Comrade Lal Kanthe, addressing a massive May Day
rally, said privatization, chopping of workers’ rights and
repression take place under the government of Mahinda Rajapakse
as well. It would be a delusion to regard this government as a
government which doesn’t indulge in privatization or grants
workers’ rights.
Addressing
a massive May Day rally of the JVP Comrade Somawansa Amrasinghe
,The leader of JVP said masses in the country have tried
replacing governments to find solutions to their questions
without any success. However, they need not look for
replacements now as JVP has come forward to fulfill the
aspirations of the masses.
Comrade
Tilvin Silva, General Secretary of the JVP said only the JVP is
able to hold a demonstration and a rally to celebrate the
International Day of Workers and this proves that majority of
the workers in the country are with the JVP.
Addressing
the rally Comrade Wimal Weerawansa, Information Secretary of the
JVP, said the present government is engaged in gratifying
imperialists. This is why they present devolution proposals said
Comrade Weerawansa and added these actions only help imperialism
and separatism but don’t help in solving the national question.
He said people are questioning why measures were not taken to
destroy light air crafts even when it was known that tiger
terrorists possessed them.
The
attractive demonstration held by the JVP prior to the rally
commenced from Campbell Park at Borella and proceeded to
Parliament Grounds at Jayawardenepura. There were a large number
of attractive floats and the stage for the rally was a massive
attractive one.
Greetings
from Socialist Women’s Union, Socialist Farmers’ Union,

Take Bold Decisions to Defeat
Tiger Terrorism |
|
The Political
Bureau of the JVP in a condemning statement about the brutal
attack on civilian bus on 02nd April urged the
government to take bold decisions to decisively defeat
separatist tiger terrorism and all international forces behind
it.
“If the
government fails to find correct solutions for the message given
by separatist tiger terrorism to the Sri Lankan society by
carrying out mass murders, the government also should take the
responsibility for the advantage such acts give to separatist
terrorism. What is in front of us is not a situation that could
be taken with irrational or cowardly decisions. It is a
situation that could be won with complete, correct, bold and
intelligent decisions only.” PB Statement further stated.

MR Wants signal posts to raise their hands for
anything
- Comrade Tilvin Silva |
|
Comrade
Tilvin Silva, The General Secretary of the JVP, addressing a
massive demonstration rally in Nugegoda yesterday(15th
Feb) said that the President Mahinda Rajapakse wanted only
signal posts that would raise their hands for anything and took
in 18 Parliamentarians from the UNP to get this done.
The rally was
held under the theme “Government Jumps off the Track - Here’s
people’s power to defend people’s mandate!”
Addressing
the rally Comrade Silva said, “we held a similar rally at the
same place here five years ago. It was to defeat the treacherous
path the UNP was taking with tiger terrorists by signing an
agreement hostile to the country that would divide the country.
Today we have before us the task of either turning around the
path Mahinda Rajapakse’s government is taking with a clique of
the treacherous UNP against the people’s mandate received at the
presidential election in 2005 or to send the whole government
packing.
“If Mr.
Mahinda Rajapakse wanted to defend discipline in his party he
should have first sacked Mr. Tissa Vitharana, who brought up
devolution proposals against ‘Mahinda Chinthana.’ But this is
not done. G.L. Peiris, Rajithe and Milinda who were traitors to
the Motherland have been taken into the cabinet. However,
Mangala Samaraweera who strived to bring Rajapakse to power is
sacked from the cabinet. When we talked about it a minister had
said it was an internal question. It is a question of the
government. This government is not an asset of the SLFP. This is
a government brought to power by the people. We, who strived
hard to bring this government to power, have a right to talk
about it.” Comrade Tilvin Silva emphasized. |

|
The

that
the USA ,
which murdered 2.5% of the population in Iraq , manipulating to

JVP Decided to quit APC |
|
The leader of
JVP Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe in a press conference said
that the JVP
did not
want to go down in history as a member of an institution which
would take a decision hostile to the country and decided to withdraw from All party conference, which
was formed to discuss the national question in Sri Lanka.
Speaking at
the press conference he further pointed out that the proposals
put forward by the expert committee of the APC did not agree
with the mandate received at the presidential election held in
2006.
The
proposals to merge the North and the East that were de-merged by
a decision of the Supreme Court and appointing vice presidents
on a communal basis and the proposals against the unitary state
were some proposals of expert panel of APC that would give an
advantage to the separatist movement, Comrade Amarasinghe said.
“People have
forwarded about 700 proposals but the expert committee has
considered none of them” Comrade Amarasinghe further said.
“The JVP
would consider returning to the APC, if the government was

If tiger terrorists are willing for talks they should
compulsorily lay down their arms before talks commence - JVP |
|

press conference yesterday(13th Sept) said that
The
joint statement of the Co-Chairs is a gross violation of the
internal affairs of Sri Lanka.
Speaking
further Comrade Weerawansa said the statement of the Co-Chairs
has placed Tamil tiger terrorists on an equal par with the
Government of Sri Lanka. The statement has expressed views that

relevant to de-merging the North and the East and the JVP
considers that the statement made by Co-Chairs was a very
harmful one.
“According
to Solheim tigers have not said they would come for talks

should not be stopped; and if tiger terrorists are willing for
talks they should compulsorily lay down their arms before talks

National question could be solved if President acts unwaveringly
- Comrade Tilvin Silva |
|
The
General Secretary of the JVP Comrade Tilvin Silva addressing a
seminar on the theme “Motherland in Peril! What should be done?” held at
the auditorium of the National Youth Centre at Maharagama
yesterday (7th June) said that The crisis arisen of
the national question could be solved if President Mahinda
Rajapakse acts unwaveringly and in keeping with the mandate he
received emphasizes the JVP.
Speaking
further Comrade Silva said the imperialists have prepared three
courses of action to divide Sri Lanka.
“The forum
on ‘Devolution of power’ is one such scheme. “Devolution of
power’ in reality is federal system. This system has been used
to unite divided countries and to divide countries that are
united. Dividing the country by treaty was another ruse to
divide a country. Sudan has been divided this way. The
foundation for this in Sri Lanka was first laid by Mr. Ranil
Wickremasinghe using the ‘ceasefire agreement’. The third scheme
is to divide the country by the mediation of foreign forces. An
attempt to name Sri Lanka as a ‘failed state’ is being made for

Mistakes made in Geneva talks should
be rectified in future rounds of talks - JVP |
|
The
Political Bureau of the JVP in a statement issued for the all
party conference held on 6th March stated that the
preparations for the latest round of talks were done in a manner
that was completely open and transparent.
“In the
next rounds of talks in April, the GOSL team should actively
work to rectify the mistakes made at the previous round of
talks. We are of the opinion that the GOSL team did very well up
to the point of the joint statement. These mistakes should not
be repeated and those mistakes made should be rectified in
future rounds of talks.” Political Bureau of the JVP said.
“In
future, all steps taken at the negotiation table should be in
full accordance with the JVP's agreement with H.E. President
Mahinda Rajapakse and his vision for Sri Lanka, Mahinda
Chintanaya. We firmly believe that it is better to walk away
from the negotiating table without any progress being made,
rather than agree to any conditions that would be detrimental to

Joint
statement doesn't justify victories gained at talks
- JVP |
|
The Political
bureau of the JVP in a press statement on 26th Feb
said that the talks held in Geneva on the 22nd and 23rd
February, 2006, from the angle of regaining sovereignty of Sri
Lanka and re-establishing democracy, as a step towards the right
direction.
“We believe that this victory would greatly assist the
people in the Northern and the Eastern parts of Sri Lanka in
re-establishing democracy, human rights and their right to
live.” PB statement further stated.
It should
also be stated that regardless of the GOSL team presenting facts
according to the 12 clauses of MoU agreed between the JVP and
Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse in the inaugural speech and until the end
of the discussions, the joint statement issued at the end of the
talks had been prepared contradicting it. “We denounce that.”
They further added.
