Wesak Day message of the JVP

Today is Wesak Poya Day, the day Buddhists all over the world accept as the day in which Lord Buddhas Birth, Enlightenment and Nirvana took place. This day is commemorated, venerated and honoured by all Buddhists.

Lord Buddha’s teachings that help the society to progress include cooperation, working for reconciliation and righteousness. Undoubtedly, most of the virtuous qualities that exist in the Sri Lankan society have been nurtured by His teachings. Buddhism was the base for most of the cultural events in the Sri Lankan society.

Bring down prices of all commodities – JVP

“As soon as the commemoration of the International Workers’ Day was over the government has commenced increasing prices of commodities. A cylinder of LP gas has been increased by Rs.350/= and a bag of cement  by Rs.70/=. A packet of 400 gram milk powder has been increased by Rs.61/= while a packet of a kilo gram has been increased by Rs.163/=. The price of milk powder went up due to a 15% tax the government imposed on it. The government that destroys the local dairy farming by not having a programme to buy milk produced by dairy farmers making dairy farmers spill their milk on the roads, imposes high taxes on imported milk powder which results in increased prices.

We would achieve Socialism, the noble expectation of the downtrodden masses – Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe

Socialism, the noble expectation of all downtrodden masses would be achieved with many other victories on the way says the Leader of the JVP Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe. He said this addressing the massive May Day rally held at BRC grounds on the 1st.

He said, Today we commemorate a historic May Day. The conspiracy launched internally and from outside has been defeated by us all. When we commemorated May Day last year many comrades in our party did not know there was a conspiracy being hatched against our party. We are commemorating this May Day after the conspiracy was exposed and it was defeated. Imperialism is breathing its last breaths. It acts ruthlessly for its survival.  As such, conspiracies against us are not over. For, Socialism goes forward together with counter-revolution.

May Day resolutions of the JVP

May Day is the day working people commemorate the victory the struggle for an eight hour working day. It is the day the working people of the whole world bring together strength of their unity.

At this moment when the May Day 2012 is commemorated Sri Lanka, under the pro-imperialist Mahinda Rajapaksa capitalist regime, has been plunged in a precipice of economic, political social and moral bankruptcy unprecedented in its history. Capitalism has no solution for the present crisis Sri Lanka, that has been made a prey of imperialist ‘globalization,’ is confronted with at present.
