Thai Pongal message of the JVP

Today is Thai Pongal Day. According to Hindu calendar the new year commences today.

A new year brings new hopes. The dawn of a new year is a moment that renews hopes of winning challenges that were not overcome and finding solutions for issues that were not solved.

However, if the new year of Hindu devotees dawns when wishes made in the previous year were not fulfilled or if new issues are added to the ones that existed, it calls for deep thought. It would be necessary to strive hard and work with resolve to overcome challenges to make the new year a victorious one. It would be necessary to look at life and the society in a new perspective and resolve to move on a new path.

Despite two and a half years have gone by since the end of the thirty year old war, Hindu devotees have not got a new life. Thousands of Tamil youth are being detained. Also, there are constant reports of abductions and murders. The rulers have failed to give the new life Tamil masses expected after the end of the war.

The JVP believes that in such an environment it is very important to move on a new path with new thoughts on this new year. This vicious system should be changed to have new things to talk about next year. The JVP is always prepared to pave the way and give leadership for such a change.

While extending greetings to all Hindu devotees celebrating Thai Pongal, the JVP calls upon all to come forward to bring victory for aspirations of a better tomorrow.
