The Hambanthota District summit of ‘Dhiriya Purawesi’ Societies was held at Tangalle on Sunday (22nd). It is a part of the series of summits being held by the JVP throughout the island under the theme ‘“Gamata Diriyak – Ratata Balayak” (Boost for the Village & Power for the Country).
The Leader of the JVP Comrade Anura Dissanayaka was the chief guest of the summit attended by a large crowd. The Leader of the District Comrade Nihal Galappaththi MP, former Chairman of Thissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha Comrade H.L. Piyasiri, Member of the Southern Provincial Council Comrade Athula Welendagoda, Asst. Secretary of All Ceylon Fishermen’s Federation Comrade Ruwan Senerath, the Head of the Sinhalese section of Ruhuna University and the Director of French Language Cultural Center Retd. Senior Professor Ruhunuhewa, District Organizer for ‘Women For Rights’ Rohini Bandgama, the Head of the Sinhalese Section of Ruhuna University Prof. Dharma Rajapaksa, the Head of the Economics section of Ruhuna University Dr. Shantha Sumanaratna, Senior Lecture at Ruhuna University Wimasiri Punchihewa, former JMO of Tangalle Base Hospital, The Medical Director of Tangalle Prison Dr. Prasanna Sellahewa, Dr. Risni Dalaburugama of Hambanthota District Hospital, Director of Health Services of Beliatta Division Dr. Anura Jayasekera, Dr. Terense Senanayaka from ‘Sethsuwa’ Medical Center at Tangalle, Dr. Ashoka Rajapaksa, Director of Sevanagala Hospital, Attorney at Law Jayantha Rohana, former Direct of Education Tangalle S.V. Weerasena, former Chief Accountant of Hambanthota District Secretariat H.K. Somasiri were present.
How the country could be changed at a forthcoming general election and how the JVP would give leadership for such a task as well as the programme that could develop the country was discussed. Comrade Anura Dissanayaka said a programme to create a good health service and education for all would be implemented.
