Speaking at a propaganda meeting held at Matara comrade Anura Dissanayake said, “People in this country elected governments with much hope. The voters who voted for the two main political parties thought the governments they elect would create a good country for them. What did the rulers do? They ruled the country against all expectations of the people who elected them to office. The masses go to the polling booth to elect governments. However, the government elected act opposite to the aspirations of the people. The people in our country have experienced 15 governments. They know that the rules are not capable of bringing any development to our people or the country. Hence, we should take an important decision with confidence on the 16th to reject the outdated political camps and take the country towards a new path.
People say that despite casting votes for us, we do not win elections. Normally, people expect to vote for a side that wins. However, the people who have voted for a winner have never won. If they really want to win this time they have to turn toward the ‘compass’. They should vote for the side that makes them the victors instead of voting for the side that brings victory to the politicians. We should take this message to the villages. We should tell the people that they have been defeated for 71 years and now if they want to win they should vote to the compass. We assure that a vote for the compass is a victory for the people.
There is another dialogue going around certain circles of society. They say the NPP is good, what they say is correct, however, the vote should be used to stop Gota from coming to power – Rajapaksas should not be allowed to come to power, and people should vote to defeat Rajapaksas. If so, did the people in this country defeat Appuhamys in 2015? The largest number of people voted to defeat Rajapaksas in 2015. Basil Rajapaksa shed his national suit, adorned trousers and shirt and fled to the USA. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa handed over the elephants he kept at his residence, smashed the tank in which he reared killer sharks and went to his Mirihana residence. Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over the SLFP to Maithri with both his hands. All that was done as they were terrified.
It is the criminals that know the gravity of the crime they committed. It is the thief who knows how large his booty is. It is why Rajapaksas were scared. Who gave oxygen and brought back the Rajapaksas who were terrified to this election? It was Ranil, Maithri, Sagala and Sajith. Why do they ask the people to defeat them again? Rajapaksa should be defeated. It is also necessary to defeat the UNP that protected Rajapaksas.
Sajith has been in Parliament for 19 years. Throughout these nineteen years, he has not mentioned Gotabhaya. We would challenge Mangala, the main agent of Sajith, to disapprove it. Rajapaksas and the UNP are very close buddies. They protect each other. As such, people need not get into different camps and fight each other. Both these cliques are in one political camp. Both these cliques should be defeated, and the country should be handed over to a new camp. The NPP should be given the responsibility of our country. We would assure you that we’ll create a country where all sectors of the society, the children, the youths, women, the disabled, the elderly can live contented lives.
We have work in several sectors. Our main task is to clean up the political arena. There is a team of genies who have guard the arena generation after generation.
In 2015 nearly thirty new MPs entered Parliament. Out of these, except for the MPs of the JVP, there was only one other MP who entered Parliament without any connection with a generation involved in politics. As such, no doors in politics were kept open for the new generation. The government and the country are ruled just as they control their family assets.
The two candidates of the other camp have got their nominations due to their family connections. One is the son of a father who was a President, and the other is the brother of a President. I am the only exception. We would create a political culture so that a youth from a distant village also could come to the top of politics in our country.
We call upon the people in this country to chase away the clique of genies from our politics. In the transformation that should take place in politics in our country, the woman will be assigned with a massive task. We ask all women to come forward to take this responsibility.
