Anyone with a conscience cannot approve the ridiculous and destructive path the country is being taken but the currently scattered third camps should be collected in one centre to defeat the two main camps that are dragging the country towards the path of destruction says the Leader of the JVP Comrade Anura Dissanayaka.
Comrade Anura Dissanayaka made this observation speaking at the launching of the ‘National People’s Power’ (NPP) held at BMICH yesterday (14th) with the participation of alternative political parties, civil organizations, progressive groups and a large crowd.
As a result of the dialogue carried out in the society headed by the National Intellectuals Organization (NIO) with various political parties, civil organizations, artists, trade union leaders, social groups etc. to build an alternative force that could build the country the National People’s Power was launched at BMICH yesterday.
The JVP, 71 Sahodrathwa Sansadaya (Brotherhood Society of 71), Centre for Dialogue, Aluth Parapura (New Generation), Aluth Piyapath (New Wings), Trade Union Federation of the Government, Samasamaja Vipalka Kandayama (LSSP Alternative Group), Ethera Api, Jana Niyamu Kalakaru Ekathuwa, Janatha Mehewara Udesa Rajya Sevakayo, Janawabodha Kendraya, National Fishermen’s Solidarity Movement, National, Bhikkhu Front, National Intellectuals Organization, National Trade Union Centre, Da-bindu Samuhikaya, Railway Employees’ Union, National Front for Good Governance, Wame Kendraya ( Left Centre), Revolutionary Socialist Centre, Sri Lanka Jamaat-e-Islami , Sri Lanka Communist Party (Alternative Group), Sri Lankan Alumni and Professionals Association (SLAPA), University Teachers for Social Justice, Doctors for Social Justice, Savisthree National Movement, Sulu Jana Maha Sabhawa, United Left Front and several Social activists have formed the NPP.
Speaking further the JVP Leader said instead of the capitulation that exists generally in our society people who struggle against injustice and are defiant should be created. A powerful mass organization with such people could create a new society and the effort of such a force would overcome crises.
Comrade Anura Dissanayaka said, “Our country is moving towards a very destructive end. The country and the people have been severely distressed. The biggest harm to the economy, the society and the environment is being committed. The effort we have taken to change this situation has not been successful yet. Anyone with a conscience cannot approve the ridiculous and destructive path the country is being taken. This destructive path should be certainly changed.
Today the society is divided into three camps. One represents the tribal past. The other represents the destructive neo-liberal extreme. These two camps adorn power separately and at times together. Outside these two camps, there is a massive scattered camp. This scattered third camp should be collected into one centre. The National People’s Power is being created for this purpose. We, who represent this centre may have differences. However, we all have our trust on three main pillars. The first is democracy in the country. The second is economic equality and the third is humanity.
Today, obstructions have been put up against the freedom of the people everywhere. This is relevant to all sectors including the fine arts. Economic development is not a concrete jungle. It need not be a miraculous one. There should be a situation where mothers need not jump before trains with the daughters unable to bear starvation. It should be a country where youths do not think fleeing the country is a victory. It should be an economy that justly distributes its gains among the members of the society and where everyone is treated equally. A righteous society sans all tribal, communal and extremist ideologies should be created where everyone could live as contented human beings.
We may have struggled in various sectors on behalf of such sentiments. However, what is before us today is not a struggle that could be won with isolated struggles. To win this struggle we all should come together as a single force. We believe that the National People’s Force could be such a collective attempt.
We should take this message to all parts of our society. This concept should be taken to the roots of our society. This organization should become a broad mass movement. Instead of the capitulation that exists generally in our society people who struggle against injustice and are defiant should be created. We would pledge that the National People’s Power would certainly create a new society where everyone could lead contented lives.”
