Addressing the ‘People’s Assembly’ held at Ratnapura on the 19th Comrade Anura Dissanayaka also said, “The people have got another opportunity to form a new administration. There are two choices before the people now. One is the destructive path the country has been dragged for 71 years and the new path that leads the country to prosperity. We have come to Ratnapura to invite you all to use the forthcoming presidential election to cast away the socio-economic-political policy that has been followed for 71 years and to embark on a new journey that would lead the country towards unity, peace, righteousness and prosperity.
There have been many incidents during these 71 years from which we could learn. If we do not learn from such experiences, they would be submerged as mere incidents in history. People who have learnt from these incidents have no right to choose the old camp and bring them back to power.
The time has come for all progressive, left and democratic forces to get united. The forthcoming election is advantageous to us. It is one that could be used to change the administrative power. The other camp is engulfed in various crises and contradictions. We have planned to unite all progressive, left and democratic forces and confront the election with strength and confidence. We should win this election. However, this could be won only if we talk to others in our village, town and workplace. We should talk to members of other parties and build a power base in the village, town and the workplace. We could end this campaign with a victory. We call upon all to unite and come forward to achieve this victory.”
