Today (25th) is Christmas, commemorated with devotion and splendour by Christians all over the world to celebrate the day Jesus Christ was born into this world. The JVP, with pleasure, wishes Sri Lankan Christian devotees, who celebrate Christmas with Christians all over the world, a Merry Christmas.
Christmas, the day Jesus Christ was born 2018 years ago in Bethlehem, is generally recognized as the day bringing the message of peace and fellowship. However, this message of peace and fellowship has, in this world where inequality, injustice and neo-slavery are rampant not reached everyone equally. This is why the aspiration of every Christian should be to take the world towards the essence of Christianity and to create a society of contentment. We believe that this Christmas is a good opportunity for Christians all over the world to stand beside the downtrodden masses and resolve to struggle against the vicious, greedy and bloodthirsty capitalism which attempts to turn this world their hunting ground.
Jesus Christ fought on behalf of his vision. He raised the ideological weapon against the administration that suppressed masses. He, who fought against vicious, corrupt rulers for freedom and justice, sacrificed His life for the liberation of the people all over the world. This is what made His life sacred. The country, the world needs today fully fledged, independent people with such a fighting spirit.
Today, our task is to create a ground that could plant and nurture the noble qualities of Jesus Christ preached. His vision that teaches to transact with our neighbour with love and brotherhood instead of taking up arms against him is a message invaluable today. It emphasizes the requirement to create a society with equality.
.We call upon all Christian devotees in Sri Lanka to make this Christmas the day of resolve to create such a society. We wish all Christians a Merry Christmas!
