“Today politics has become a business a robbery. We have heard of a group of sea pirates in Somalia. What they do is plunder the ships that sail near Somalia waters. There is only a small difference between these pirates and the leaders of our governments. The difference is Somali pirates adorn strange garments when they plunder ships. However, our ‘plunderers’ wear tie and coat or the national dress to engage in their plunder of public money. Hence, the rulers of our country are a group of plunderers, not administrators. The politics in our country has deteriorated to the rock bottom,” said the General Secretary of the JVP Comrade Tilvin Silva addressing the Kalutara District Convention of ‘Dhiriya Purawesi Societies held yesterday (6th) at Panadura town as a part of the series of summits being held by the JVP throughout the island under the theme ‘“Gamata Diriyak – Ratata Balayak” (Boost for the Village & Power for the Country). A large crowd was present.
Speaking further Comrade Tilvin Silva said, “Our country is moving towards barbarism. This has to be changed. We have no right to hand down such a country to our children. This is why we say changing this country now is compulsory and we have got the opportunity to do so. This is why it is necessary to rally the masses. This is why the JVP is tirelessly working towards such a goal. We are holding summits of the ‘Dhiriya’ societies to build a mighty power to change the politics in this country at the first instance we get.
We are now not concerned with the 70 years of rotating politics. It has been proved that that kind of politics cannot take our country forward by even an inch. Hence, it should be changed.”
The Member of the Central Committee of the JVP Comrade Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa MP, Western Provincial Council Member of the JVP Comrade Nandana Pathmakumara, former Ministry Secretary A.P.A. Gunasekera and former Regional Advisor of World Health Organizational Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe also addressed the Convention.
