A large area of the Tissa Pradeshiya Sabha(Local council under JVP administration) was also submerged with the floods which affected various parts of the island recently. The working force of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, ‘Red Star’ came forward in assistance immediately.

 These photographs depict some activities of the ‘Red Star’ movement lead by JVP leader Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe.

 Red Star Society helped to repair the culverts, roads and places damaged with the floods in the area for a whole week. Around 1000 members of the Red Star participated in these activities. Hambantota District Parliamentarian Comrade Nihal Galappatti, Chairman of the Tissa Pradeshiya Sabha Comrade H L Jayasiri and other JVP members of the Pradeshiya Sabha also participated in this campaign.
