Socialist Women’s’ Union(SWU), the Women’s wing of the JVP commemorated InterNational Women’s Day on 08^th March 2005,  under the theme of ‘Her Duty to win the world tomorrow’ at Youth Centre, Maharagama.

National organizer of the socialist Women’s union Comrade Dimuthu Atigala delivered the key note at the ceremony.

Comrade Samanmalee Gunasinghe, member of the National organizing committee of the SWU chaired the ceremony.

A book was launched named ‘Rathu Kusum’ (Red Flowers) commemorating activists of international Women's Movement. First copy of the book was presented to the mother of Comrade Deepika Muthuhetti, who was assassinated in 1988-89 UNP regime and the Grand mother of Comrade Sriya Nilanthi Dias, who died while engaged with Relief Services in Tsunami affected area.

Leader of the JVP Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe, Comrade Anura Dissanayake, Comrade Lal Kantha and Comrade Vijitha Herath also participated for this event.
