The Political Bureau of the JVP having considered the emergency situation that prevail in many areas in Sri Lanka including in the districts of Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Trincomalee, Ampare,Batticloa & Jaffna has decided to mobilize its ‘Relief Services Force'.

The JVP has requested its members of ‘Relief Services Force’ to report to their nearest party office to enable them to join the programme of the party to bring relief to the victims of the tidal wave disaster.

The JVP has also appealed to all humanitarian forces to come forward to bring relief to the victims of this national calamity.

JVP Donate houses to the people in Eastern province

The Relief Services Force(RSF) of the JVP has been donated temporary houses for the people in Urani, a village situated in Eastern province, which was highly devastated by Tsunami Disaster.

The leader of the JVP comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe, Minister of Cultural & National Heritage Comrade Vijitha Herath, MP Ramalingum chandrashekar & MP Wasantha Piyatissa participated for the handing over ceremony.

Another  Temporary housing project, which was rapidly constructed by Relief Services Force(RSF) of the JVP have been donated to the Tsunami victims in Maradhamunai recently.

40 houses for Kalutara

40 houses made by the JVP relief services force ware handed over to families in Kalutara on 18th Feb 2005.

Comrade Wimal Weerawansa, the Parliament group leader of JVP distributed the keys of 40 Houses among tsunami affected families at the ceremony held at Katukurunda. these 40 houses ware built by the relief services force of JVP with the donations of general public. these houses with cement floors and wooden walls are built within three days by  RSF members.

addressing the gathered clergy and people, Comrade Weerawansa said, “ quicker than the tsunami wave that sprang into the country, the relief services force have engaged in their excellent duty towards fellow country men who suffered the loss of property and lives.”

“As a nation, regardless of communal differences, we have faced the most disastrous natural challenge and we have overcome the outcome together. it proves that together we can face any other challenge even mightier that that.” comrade Weerawansa further said.

 

JVP relief fund swells upto  Rs. 111,087,702

The call by the JVP for contributions towards the tsunami relief fund set up by them was received with enormous response from the donors the world over and its relief fund has swelled upto Rs. 111,087,702 by today(25th Jan) and hopes it will continue to grow for the benefit of the country.

As soon as tsunami tidal floods struck the coastal towns in Sri Lanka killing thousands of people, the JVP swung into action and employed its cadres for relief operations in the affected areas. The activities of the Relief Service Force of the JVP covering all aspects of  relief such as healthcare, sheltering, clothing, food and drinking water and sanitation brought much comfort to the affected people and their dedication, honesty, transparency and sense of humanity earned the appreciation of even their political opponents.

Every cent of this fund will go to relief operations and the JVP believes that the vast amount of funds received by various organisations should be utilized to build the country and to enhance the quality of life of the people.

The JVP takes this opportunity to thank all those who placed their confidence in them and made financial and material contributions to the relief operations which will go on as long as they are necessary.

 

Comrade Sriya Nilanthi Rodrigo died in an accident

Comrade Sriya Nilanthi Rodrigo, a Active member of JVP died in a tragic accident on Pagnnasara Mawathe opposite Kumbulwella Purwaramaya in Galle(10th Jan).  

Comrade Rodrigo met with the accident while engaged in relief work in Galle. Comrade Udaya Indike Bandara, another member of the JVP Relief Services Force, who rode the bicycle too was seriously injured and was admitted to Karapitiya hospital.

Comrade Rodrigo had been engaged in relief work in Galle since 27th December. She was a member of a group which found the survivor from tsunami who had been among the debris for more than twelve days.

Comrade Sriya Nilanthi Rodrigo was 26 years old and got married one and a half months ago and was an active member of the Socialist Women’s Union of the JVP. Survivor found after 12 days

A person aged around sixty years, had been trapped among debris for 12 days after tsunami struck the island was found by the Relief Services force of the JVP on 09th January 2005.

RSF members found him when they were engaged with the clearing debris in Galle town.

He was unable to talk when he found. Members of the Relief Services force had immediately taken him in the the Karapitiya Hospital.

 

RSF starts Pre-Schools in Relief Camps

The leader of the JVP Comrade Somawansa Amarasinghe toured the affected areas in the South recently to monitor the " Relief pre school" project and the operations of the Relief Service Force and also to instruct it’s Membership and encourage the Tsunami victims in the area.

Comrade Amarasinghe was in conversation with the children studying in the first Relief pre school set up in a Relief camp located in a Godauda Maha Vidyalaya at Kottegoda, Matara.

 

JVP Relief to Un Cleared areas in North & East

JVP MP's Comrade Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Comrade Jayantha Wijesekara and Comrade S.K.Subasinghe could be seen in action in relief operations for the tsunami affected people in un cleared areas.

They were thus seen at work in areas like Werugal Aru, Sampur, Kiliwetti and Kattaparichchan. Relief service force of the JVP distributed essential food stuffs including water and cooked food among the displaced and conducted medical clinics for them under the guidance of JVP MP's.

Trincomalee district relief service committee of the JVP said that they would continue with their relief operations in the North and East.

 

Relief Services force at Hambantota

A large battalion of the relief service force of the JVP is at work in Hambantota district attending to relief efforts to the displaced and burying the dead bodies and clearing the debris. A seventy member team of the relief service force of the JVP had joined a group of soldiers in clearing the dead bodies.

Another team was cleaning the salt corporation yard at Hambantota while town cleaning activities at Hambantota were in progress under the supervision of the deputy minister Comrade Bimal Rathnayake.

 

A Sramadana in Kalutara District by Relief Force

There will be a series of sramadanas in the Tsunami affected areas conducted by the Relief Service Force of JVP, in Panadura, Kalutara and Beruwala in Kalutara district on 01st, 02nd and 03rd of January, 2005.The Relief Service Force extends an open invitation to its members and the  mass organizations willing to participate in the sramadanas. Those who like to take part are requested to assemble at the following places.

JVP MPs  involved in relief work in North & East areas

Comrade Jayantha Wijesekera, MP for Trincomalee District, and Comrade Ramalingam Chadrasekar MP visited the un cleared area in North & East and involved in relief work in regard with displaced people.

The MPs who went to Verugal Aru were allowed to be involved in the relief work without any disturbance by the Tigers. Members of the Relief Force with 15 lorry loads of essential food and other requirements had entered the area.

Comrade Ramalingam Chandrasekan, MP says that they were going to visit Batticoloa district and continue the relief work there. He further says that more information regarding relief work in the B'coloa district can be obtained by calling the number 0777 - 595002

 

Thousands clear away the debris from Moratuwa to Mutwal Fisheries harbour

More than a thousand members of the JVP Relief Service Force launched a massive sramadana  to clear away the debris at the main road from Moratuwa to Mutwal throughout the day (30th).

They were engaged in removing the debris in the area of the Mutwal fisheries harbour. The Secretary General of JVP, Comrade Tilvin Silva too participated in the occasion.

The Sramadana was led by Comrade Sunil Handunnetti, deputy minister and the chief organiser, Colombo District and Comrade Luxman Nipuna arachchi, MP for Colombo District.

The graduate employees of the Colombo district too assisted in the  Sramadana campaign.

 

Relief Services force launched relief work in Ampara

Ampara District group of Relief  services Force with a 1100 members, distributed dry rations and other essential  goods to those victims who are  affected by the natural disaster, after having a close inspection done around the area on 28th December” said Comrade Mohommad Mussamil, MP of the JVP.

“Today (29th ) we are engaged with reconstructing and clearing the affected areas like Ampara,Samanturai,Lahugala,and Kalmunai. And We  were able to engaged with all the relief work without any difficulties to places like Ganesh vidyala,Veramuni temple central camp of 4th colony of Navadanweli provincial council” JVP MP further added.

Relief Service force took over the relief work in the area after the discussion they had with the Ampara district secretary and the political leaders of the area.

Join National programme to bring normality to the people devastated by the tsunami! - JVP

The JVP appeals to all its members who have still not joined the National programme to bring normality to the victims of the tsunami to report to the nearest party office to do so as early as possible.

Already the Relief Services Force of the JVP together with government officials are engaged in bringing relief to the victims.

Among the tasks performed by the Relief Services Force are distributing dry foodstuff and cooked meals, supplying medicine for medical clinics, life saving and road clearing activities are primary.

JVP appeals to those who like to contribute in kind for this National Programme to bring them to the party offices in their areas.

The Relief Service Force under the leadership of parliamentarian Nandana Gunatilake and provincial councilor Jagath Pushpakumara cleared the Galle road, adjoining roads, railway track and houses in the coastal area of Panadura Local Council area.


The Relief Service Force led by parliamentarian Piyasiri Wijenayake and provincial councilor Vaas Gunawardane cleared the debris from the Galle road and adjoining roads at Kuda Payagala, Beruwala.


All the Roads devastated by the Tsunami in the coastal area in the Kalutara divisional secretariat have been reconstructed by the JVP Relief Service Force.
