Since then, there have been casualties and property damage due to the reactions of angry people. Everyone including Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa should take responsibility for this chain of events.
There have been various peaceful protests throughout the country for about a month now. They need to know that there would inevitably be a reaction to the planned attack by the Mahinda Rajapaksas on peaceful protests. Therefore, the government led by Gotabaya Rajapaksa should take responsibility for the entire process. The ceremony held at Temple Trees was not a ceremony for Mahinda Rajapaksa to resign as Prime Minister. In fact, it was held to bring gang members, former provincial councillors and local government representatives and thugs remaining with them to Temple Trees.
The vehicles they transported to Colombo had food, arrack, swords, knives and sticks. Mahinda Rajapaksa addressed the gathering at Temple Trees and developed the mentality required for an attack. Accordingly, the mob was incited and released, and they attacked the protest in front of Temple Trees. From there, the thugs marched with the police to the Galle Face. Tear gas was not used to stop the march. Officials working closely with the Rajapaksas carried out a well-planned and brutal attack on these two places. The campaign was launched to spread rumours that people had attacked and suppressed protest groups. People with pain and anger reacted against the attack. An unruly mob, a premeditated attack, was deployed with assault weapons. Therefore, the group, including Mahinda Rajapaksa, who planned and launched this attack from Temple Trees, should be arrested and produced before the court. This is not a simple matter.
The present government has not yet recognized the mentality of the people of this country. The suffering of the people of this country has not been identified. People have been taking to the streets for a month without any party affiliation and calling for the government that has failed to meet its basic needs to go home. However, the government, swollen with power, acted by making fun of the people. Johnston Fernando said he had enough money to meet the needs of the people. Minister Gamini Lokuge said that there was too much oil in the petrolsheds that could not be unloaded from bowsers. They did not even acknowledge that there was a problem in the country. That is why the people’s protest was so intense. The government cannot stop the protests of the entire people of a country by using a few thugs. This is people’s request for Gotabaya and his the government to go home. It is a call to end the 74-year curse; to give the people the opportunity to build a government of their choice. No one in this country can have a personal grudge against Gotabaya Rajapaksa. 6.9 million of these people voted and brought them to power. Now, there is a protest against bankrupting the country and making the people miserable and enjoying it without making an attempt to solve the issues . At a time like this, Namal Rajapaksa went to the Maldives and played water sports. Went to Dubai and did air somersaults.
The people saw that those in the government were wasting money when they were suffering and that the lives of the people were not taken into account while the government stalwarts were enjoying public money. That is why the Rajapaksas were told to leave. When they deployed a few people addressed as ‘Sir’, who were near them, they thought it was right. We ask them to take a report from the intelligence services and understand what the public is saying. Or the country will be destroyed and the people will have to suffer more. Mahinda Rajapaksa cannot step down as Prime Minister and stay at home. They have to hide in army camps. Gotabaya Rajapaksa needs to understand this. Gotabhaya must now understand the plight of the people who are without electricity, in the queue for oil and gas.
Without that, this struggle cannot be suppressed by Violence. It is a very stupid idea to think so. This struggle cannot be suppressed by thugs. People all over the country were disturbed due to the state of emergency and the attack on protesters by thugs. No one cares if the curfew is imposed. Here is a mass uprising. There is no other answer but to listen to the voices of the people. At the same time, the people involved in the struggle have made a special request to all. Many good qualities have been added to the most peaceful struggle to date. A special request is made not to add Violence that abolishes those qualities. The pain of seeing their children beaten is justified. While that anger and pain is justified, turning it into Violence is by no means beneficial. We are all in this fight. This battle can be won. There are already a lot of achievements. The resignation of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister is also a great victory. Basil Rajapaksa had to leave the Finance Ministry. The cabinet had to be reshuffled. The racism that had existed can no longer be sown. Religiosity cannot be sown. All these are victories of the struggle.
We must not allow these achievements to be reversed. It is harmful to take the struggle to the violent side. Gotabaya is also looking to brand the Violence and provide military solutions. Gotabaya is waiting to give the answers he knows by bringing the army subunits to Colombo under the state of emergency. I urge all fraternally not to create a rational environment for such repression. This battle should be won not by emotions but by intellect.
Emotions cannot win this battle. We need to move towards victory with unity, with good restraint, good organization and with the utmost restraint as we have done so far. The dignity of the whole fight should not be tarnished by a few emotional provocateurs. violence that moves towards harmfulness inadvertently aids the Rajapaksas. Our struggle has a very pure objective of removing the Gotabaya Rajapaksas, defeating the Rajapaksas and ending the 74 year curse.
Our goal is not a narrow one. It is a broad objective about the country. This fight should not be weakened due to petty reasons. Violence is detrimental to the struggle. The enemy has an advantage and therefore this struggle should be carried out peacefully as it has been carried out so far. At the same time we have to intensify our struggle. The government including Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be sent like Mahinda was sent home. This struggle must be intensified democratically and peacefully and victory must be achieved quickly. We will fight for it. After that a mechanism should be built, and administration should be handed over to that mechanism for a short period of time. The National People’s Power and the JVP take on the responsibility of rescuing the country from this catastrophe. We hope to present a series of proposals tomorrow (11th) to save the country from this disaster. Therefore, I urge you to act with the same courage and restraint as before to ensure the victory of the struggle. I call upon the people to end the 74 year curse of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and build a better country. Let’s rally peacefully to reach that goal.”

Comrade Tilvin Silva, the General Secretary of the JVP stated that violence is detrimental to the struggle as it is beneficial to the enemy, and the resignation of the Prime Minister will not solve the problem, and the President should resign.
