Condolence Message of JVP Sri Lanka regarding the victims of the unprecedented earthquake
\nin Turkey
\nFirst, we would like to extend our profound grief towards the people of Turkey and to grieve
\nfamilies who lost their loved ones due to the unprecedented earthquake that hit your country.
\nAccording to the latest news, more than 5100 deaths have been confirmed, but rescue teams fear
\nthe death toll may increase after a powerful magnitude 7.8 and 7.7 earthquakes rocked Turkey and
\nSyria early yesterday (6th). The earthquake has caused extensive damage to thousands of
\nbuildings in the area, and rescue workers, who face bitterly cold winter temperatures, as well as
\nelectricity and water outages and the terror of continuing aftershocks, have been searching the
\nrubble of buildings for survivors and it is feared that thousands of people in both countries would
\nbe affected.
\nAs the people in a country badly affected by the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004, which
\ncaused more than 44000 lives, we can feel the tragedy and hardships people are facing now and
\nwill soon. As an organization seeking solidarity & harmony among all people, we appreciate not
\nonly the people of Turkey but many countries that have come forward to provide humanitarian
\nemergency aid to earthquake-struck areas. We take this opportunity to thank the people of
\nTurkey again for their steadfast support and solidarity extended during the Tsunami tragedy.
\nMany countries declaring to come to the assistance of the affected indicates the strong
\nhumanitarian bond that lies underneath various power forces that attempt to disrupt the
\nhumanitarian accord among the people. While expressing our condolences to the
\ngrieving families, speedy recovery for the injured and expeditious normalcy in the regions, we
\nwish all the strength and courage to the people of Turkey to muster their forces to take on any
\ncatastrophe, whether natural or manufactured.
