Comrade Nimal Amarasiri, one of the two people injured by water and tear gas attacks by the police at the protest held by the NPP in Colombo yesterday (26th) and was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital has died. The JVP Comrade General Secretary Tilvin Silva stated this at today\u2019s press conference.
\nComrade General Secretary stated that Comrade Nimal Amarasiri (60), a resident of Nivithigala is a candidate of the NPP seeking election for the Nivithigala Pradeshiya Sabha. It is also reported that he is a former administrative officer of Sri Lanka State Plantation Corporation.
\nThe NPP started a protest march near Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo yesterday afternoon, Protesting the postponement of the election. A massive crowd from all over the country participated. The police blocked the march and attacked with water cannons and tear gas.
