We want a country where there is no disunity between the nations, no anger, hatred, suspicion and mistrust between the people but unity between the Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people. We want a country that accepts cultural identities and shares brotherhood. Today in Wattala, the platform of the NPP shows a symbol of the country we want. Last March 09, the people rallied to give Wattala Municipal Council and the Divisional Council to the NPP by voting for our candidates.<\/p>\n
But for the first time in Sri Lanka, in a background of no natural disasters and no war, Ranil Wickramasinghe postponed the election, not for fear of losing, but for fear of a NPP victory. For the first time in Sri Lanka, March 09 was supposed to be the date of the transfer of power from the few corrupt and crooked families that ruled this country to the common people. The election was postponed to prevent it. Elections have not been postponed anywhere worldwide because of a lack of money. We need an election to drive out these destructive rulers because they have looted billions of people’s wealth and turned it into a beggar country in front of the world.<\/p>\n
All efforts are being made to prevent the NPP and the common people from getting power. The latest thing is that Jayantha Katagoda MP has proposed re-appoint former local council presidents and councillors. Will the former chairman and members of the Wattala local council be allowed to be re-appointed? Only those who are elected in an election should be appointed to those positions. NPP will only allow people to be re-appointed by passing bills in the parliament. That is not democracy. Rulers should not be allowed to play with the right of mandate. These people who ruled the country for a long time said that they would make our country a Singapore, a Malaysia, a miracle in Asia and make it a prosperous country. This country collapsed when they piled up mountains of debt. Assets equal to the loans obtained have not been built. Only 10% of assets were created, but 90% of the loan was exploited. A debt burden is created by not creating assets that match the loans. Ministers bought houses in London, Dubai and Australia. Their bank accounts got fatter. Although the loans did not develop assets for the country, they created assets for themselves.<\/p>\n
Also, wasteful projects were done with loans. The Mattala airport, which was built on loan, was opened in 2013, and started paying the loan repayment in 2016. But even in 2023, when an aeroplane arrives in Mattala, it will become news. It has been revealed that the income earned from the Katunayake airport is used to maintain Mattala.<\/p>\n
Because of this, Katunayake Airport is also running at a loss. Meanwhile, Nimal Siripala says that they are constructing an airport at Hingurakgoda. This is how they embezzle. The country lost dollars because these rulers accumulated a mountain of debt that could not be paid. On April 12, 2022, the Governor of the Central Bank declared that ours is a bankrupt country that cannot pay its foreign debt.<\/p>\n
People have to pay compensation today. The VAT, which was 8%, was made 15%. According to the report given by the government to the IMF, the income obtained in 2022 is 463 billion rupees. 796 billion rupees is expected this year. If the production of goods and services increases, the VAT income increases. But in the first quarter of this year, the country’s goods and services production has shrunk by 11.8%. Due to this, the rates of all the goods and services the people buy and use have increased. By next year, they hope to get 1456 billion rupees from VAT. The current VAT will\u00a0 be increased to 21% in the next budget presented by Ranil. They are the people who bankrupted the country. But the people are burdened to pay the compensation. On the other hand, professionals were hit with a payroll tax of up to 36%. Countries like England, Canada, and Australia are pleased to take our country’s professionals. Doctors, engineers, bank managers and other professionals, as well as university professors, were put under great pressure. Due to this tax, the salary of 2% of university lecturers has become negative. Professionals have also had to pay compensation by cutting their bank loans and the loans they had taken before these taxes.<\/p>\n
Also, employees in the private sector pay 8% of their salary and the employer 12% to the Employees’ Provident Fund. If an employee gets a monthly salary of Rs.10,000\/-, a monthly membership fee of Rs.2000 will be added to the provident fund. If a salary is Rs.20,000, Rs.4000\/- goes to this fund. The Trust Fund is under the custody of the Central Bank. 96% of the money in this fund has been lent to the government through treasury bills and bonds. But the government is now preparing to cut off this money from the working people. We will not allow it. Calculations have revealed that 30% of the benefits due to the members of the EPF will be cut as suggested. It is certain that the working people will come forward to defeat this decision. We will give leadership to it. They will have to pay compensation for bankrupting the country.<\/p>\n
They and Ranil Wickramasinghe say that we should not be politically divided at this time. If a natural disaster destroys the economy, we will come together to build the country. But this is the destruction caused by the looting of billions of people’s wealth by the ruling groups. The responsibility of the people at this time is to unite with the NPP to oust this ruling group that has destroyed the country. We all can get together and form a new regime.<\/p>\n
Look at countries like India, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia, which are becoming stronger globally. Large-scale industries and the production of necessary services are emerging. Vietnam has acquired a large industrial economy by deploying a large number of human resources for the needs of modernized industries and services. Korea has become the 12th largest economy in the world. India achieved economic growth despite the covid pandemic. Countries like China, Vietnam and South Korea are the same. But the economic growth rate of our country became negative because we took loans and imported goods from abroad. To eliminate this situation, our country needs a great economic leap forward. According to Ranil’s agenda, the economic situation of our country in 2019 will return in 2028. It will become a developed country only in 2048. Then I, who is talking to you now, and Ranilu, who’s talking about a developed country in 2048, may not be there to talk about development. The NPP has prepared plans for the current young generation to take a rapid economic leap without waiting until 2048. We of the National People’s Power are ready to take the necessary economic development leap for the country.<\/p>\n
Economic crisis can be stated whether it is positive or negative. And you can tell by what you feel in your stomach and body. But our society has fallen into a great tragedy that numbers cannot measure. JR Jayawardene, in 1977, introduced a predatory economy called the open economy. We are committed to being open to the world. But JR’s predatory economy completely destroyed the manufacturing industries of our country. The Unic Radio industry was being built, but it was destroyed. Cars were being manufactured. That industry was destroyed. The growing milk production was stopped. Embilipitiya, Valachchena paper production was destroyed. Kantale, Higurana sugar production industries were destroyed. Paranthan chemical factory was closed, cement plants and metal plants were sold. Tulhiriya, Mattegoda, and Wayangoda textile colonies were sold and closed. The batik industry was destroyed, as well as the rural handlooms. The Sapugaskanda fertilizer factory was destroyed. The nylon factory was closed. The candle factory was closed. Cypetco’s insecticide factory was closed down. The lubricant factory was sold to America. This is how it was ruled during JR’s era.<\/p>\n
But India started the Leyland factory and made Ashok Leyland heavy vehicles. The Honda company of Japan was brought in and joined with the Hero company of India to make Hero Honda motorcycles. JR’s predatory economy destroyed the entire production industrial system of our country. He created the ideology that money should be earned even by killing dogs. JR said that it is impossible to earn even a rupee by studying history. R. Premadasa said that he does not need engineers, but he could do with carpenters. Chandrika Kumaratunga asked whether a person can earn by getting a Bachelor of Arts degree. JR, Premadasa and Chandrika have created a society that chases after money and destroyed all human bonds.<\/p>\n
Gampaha had a history of winning cups with volleyball. What happened today? All are converted into rupees. This society has destroyed human relations to the extent that building is challenging. The compassion that arises in the heart was destroyed. The attachment to the other, the love was lost. All human relations were drowned in the icy water of money. This society has been made to bow down and worship before the drug dealer. Today he becomes ‘Sir’ and comes to ask for votes. After 77, a bigger social tragedy than the economic tragedy was created. When an entire society collapses, the police are not the only ones to survive. Even religious institutions will not survive. The relationship between teachers and students was broken. Young women were thought of as prey to be taken aside. A society that has no compassion for others cannot move forward. The police also came to our meetings in Australia. They came because in that country, if it comes to some small incident, a person cannot lay hands on another person. Only an authorized officer can act in that regard. But in our country, we get undeveloped tribal responses. This economic journey has created great social tragedies. We will change this society where everything is determined by money. We will create a society that has compassion for others. A prime minister who held a house party during the Covid epidemic in England had to resign. While the Covid restrictions were imposed in our country, Rajapaksa’s sons played rugger matches, and the mother went to applause. There is a society that does not question them.<\/p>\n
We have to change not only this politics. Also, it is easy to change this economy. But we have to pay more attention to the recovery of this society. For that, the main factor is to confirm the supremacy of the rule of law properly. We would definitely do it. For a society to heal, literature, art, and education are needed, and the supremacy of the rule of law is essential. In 1977, JR. Jayawardene started to criminalize politics. Then Biyagama MP was Ranil Wickramasinghe. Gonawala Sunil wass the leader of Biyagama. The UNP government gave Gonawala Sunil a post of Justice of the Peace. Premadasa appointed\u00a0 Soththi Upali to the Working Committee of the UNP. Chandrika Kumaratunga took Baddagane Sanjee to her security wing. Julampitiye\u00a0 Amare shot at our meeting held at Katuwana. I have photos of Julampitiye Amare deployed to guard a meeting where Namal Rajapakse was speaking. Today Avissawella, Kosgoda, Tanamalvila, Suriyawewa, Kaduwela, Kolonnawa, Wattala areas have been turned into the playground of the underworld. This politics was built with the protection of the underworld. We know who fed the likes of Wambottas of Suryawewa and the bully brothers of Beliatta. This underworld is scaring the businessmen and society in our country. This issue can only be entirely solved by establishing the rule of law. Only the NPP can do it.<\/p>\n
Today, the drug epidemic has spread even to far-away villages. Politicians protect the drug business. Even if the villages are destroyed, it doesn’t matter to them. They run after money. We will stop the drug business. We need a responsible government for this society, for the children. The government should be responsible for citizens’ lives. We should be responsible for the future of children. They are only responsible for their family and their children. But we need a government that is responsible for society and everyone’s life. The governments of the world are like that. The government of the NPP would be like that. However, for that, the NPP should take control of the country to make a big social transformation. The power should be transferred from those crooks’ hands to the common people’s. The people of Wattala have proved that no matter what tricks they play with their power of the government, financial power, and media power, this group of thieves and criminals is conspiring and working underhandedly. Thousands of Sri Lankans living outside Sri Lanka who have seen the world are gathering around the NPP.<\/p>\n
Most of our people have not seen the world and think this is life. But this is neither the world nor life. Expectations for their children, and expectations about their future should be developed. We need to eliminate the fear of their future. Therefore, let’s form a government of the NPP once and for all. We cannot abandon that responsibility. After forming a government of the NPP, the people will wonder why they didn’t do it earlier. We will establish a regime that will not diminish even an iota of your hope, trust and expectation of us. Therefore, all of you should tell others about the destruction and tragedy that has happened to this country. Tell them also how to come out of such a crisis. We will establish the most powerful people’s government. We invite everyone to come forward and join us.<\/p>\n
