The police have arrested several youths, including the national organizer of the Socialist Youth Association (SSU), Comrade Eranga Gunasekara.
It was during the protest march held in Colombo today (24th) evening.
The protest under the theme, “Rulers who destroyed the dreams of youth, withdraw the oppression! Resign immediately!” was organized by the Socialist Youth Association.
In order to hold a protest rally, they started the protest march from Lipton Circus, chanting slogans. During the peaceful protest march held by the Socialist Youth Association today (24), 85 young men and women, including monks and lawyers, were arrested.61 of them were detained at Maradana Police Station, and another 24 were detained at Slave Island Police. The arrested include Mahanama Thero and Katapearachchi.
