We wish Christians all over the world who celebrate the birth of Jesus a Merry Christmas.
The importance of Christmas, commonly considered the day that brought the message of peace to the world, is brotherhood and coexistence, which are essential parts of the doctrine of Jesus Christ.
It is the central religious reason for cultivating harmony in human minds. Also, Christmas Day is a precious opportunity to emphasize the need to spread the message of peace and brotherhood to society.
A country where more than half of the population has to go to bed hungry cannot afford to celebrate Christmas. But that situation does not prevent us from treating our neighbours with the human qualities of love, brotherhood, and harmony that Christmas expresses.
We need more and more people full of the human qualities revealed by Jesus Christ, who fought on the side of the people against the regime that oppressed the people; we need a leader who questions the existing injustice and makes sacrifices. We need a society consisting of such people. We request all Sri Lankan Christians to make Christmas Day the day to strengthen their resolve for that.
