Intimidation is a decades-old tactic of failed rulers – Comrade Anura Dissanayake

August 30, 2022 Nihal Weerasuriya

National People’s Power and JVP leader Comrade Anura Dissanayake pointed out that scaring the society is a decades-old tactic of failed rulers, but it cannot be done today, and the people’s uprising caused by the emerging economic instability in the country cannot be prevented by such intimidation.
He said this while participating in the “Solution to the Crisis” political discourse organized by the National People’s Power in Bandarawela Constituency on the 28th.
Civil organization activists, professionals, National Executive Member of National People’s Power, Badulla District Executive Member Comrade Samantha Vidyaratne and many others were present.
Comrade Anura Dissanayake, speaking further, said, “Unsuccessful rulers who want to rule the country are trying to scare the society. They are trying to create a social phobia. It’s a trick. Now they publish a photograph of our Comrade Eranga and ask who he is. Don’t they know our Comrade Eranga? Don’t the police know him? They know. But they publish a photograph saying that they are looking for him.
Why is that? All this is done to scare society. Society does not come forward when it is scared. People don’t talk to each other—no phone to phone calls. Don’t talk at a junction. They think they would be arrested at any time. Therefore, this plan is there to scare society.
Therefore, I think the governments controlled people by intimidation and repressive laws have done so decades ago. Those tactics are decades old. That’s why they can’t be applied to our society now.
There is a possibility of political instability surfacing. Economic instability has already emerged. I don’t think the people’s uprising can be prevented by small whispers, intimidation, arrests and name calling.”
