A meeting between representatives of the Collective of the Disappeared at Thirukkovil in Ampara District and leaders of the JVP was held at the main office of the JVP on the 16th.
The Information Secretary of the JVP Comrade Vijitha Herath MP and former Provincial Council Member Comrade Marugan Morgan participated on behalf of the JVP.
The members of the Collective said that Rajapaksa regime as well as the present government do not act properly regarding their disappeared relatives and specially no legal action has been taken against those who abducted their relatives.
They pointed out that Iniya Bharathy, a thug who left the LTTE and committed murders and abductions with the support of the government during Mahinda Rajapaka regime, is engaged in thuggery with the patronage of the present government as well and if legal action is taken against him correct information regarding their disappeared relatives could be revealed.
Although it has been stated that all displaced have been resettled, they do not have even minimum facilities to carry out their daily chores they pointed out adding they were given only small sheds of zinc sheets eight years ago but still they have not been given any other infra structure facility.
The pressure that existed during Rajapaksa regime exists even under the ‘yahapalana’ regime they pointed out adding gangs of thugs that exist courtesy of security sections continue to threaten and pressurize them.
They said as they observed that JVP took action to draw the attention of authorities for their issues, they have confidence in the JVP to tell their woes. They said they believed that the JVP, that has experienced the woes of the disappeared, would be sensitive to their issues and they have full confidence in the JVP to mediate in their issues.
Comrade Vijitha Herath said he would visit Thirukovil area in Ampara to have more discussions regarding the issue and would take steps to find a solution.
