Tens of thousands of people join protest march that began in Beruwela

April 17, 2022 Nihal Weerasuriya

The three day march organized by the National People’s Power (NPP) under the theme ‘Let’s chase away the gang of thieves who robbed us of our money!’ started today (17th) at 9 am from Beruwala.
Tens of thousands of people have gathered for the protest march. Crowds gathered on both sides of the protest march, supporting the march by lighting firecrackers, serving cool drinks and offering snacks.
The protest march will end in Wadduwa today, and tomorrow (18th), it will restart from Wadduwa and march to Moratuwa and from Moratuwa to the Colombo Municipal Council grounds the next day (19th). A massive protest rally has been organized at the Colombo Municipal Council grounds.
The event is attended by a large number of leaders of the NPP, artists, doctors, lawyers, university professors and a large number of professionals from various fields. Speaking to the media during the protest march the JVP and NPP Leader Anura Dissanayake said, “What we need to do now is to go beyond protest and build economic development in this country, the rule of law, a government free from fraud and corruption, a government that seizes property from fraud and corruption, and a government that punishes fraudsters and corrupt people. The National People’s Power has created the broadest platform for that. Today we have prepared this march for the mass mobilization required for that. In Uganda, in Seychelles, in Los Angeles, in the Bronx, Madamulana and in Kollupitiya, all those who stole public wealth must be taken over. Who can do that? It can only be done by a non-corrupt business that is not involved in corruption.”Media says: Another allegation made by the government is that the National People’s Power is behind all the conspiracies against the government?
